Refreshing Mimosa

Refreshing Mimosa Cocktail

The exciting news of the week is that Illustration Friday has launched it’s new, beautiful, user friendly site! It’s been a while since I participated in Illustration Friday but the new site comes at the perfect time. I’ve been in a desperate need of motivation to get drawing, and finish illustrations I’ve started but not finished. So the stars have aligned and I’m ready to draw!

This week’s topic is Refresh. Considering the heatwave that’s pretty much taken over the US this week I wanted to do something that triggered sense memories of a cool drink on a hot summer day. Mimosa’s seemed like the perfect solution. I especially liked how the color orange in this context can be used as a depiction of heat as well as the refreshing taste of fresh squeezed orange juice.

Since I was using a Mimosa as the inspiration for my illustration I thought it would be fun to create a set of illustrated recipe cards. I already did a recipe card when I did the Gold Room for my Overlook Hotel postcard series, so I thought it would be fun to create a series of cocktail recipe cards to mix and match!

If anyone is here strictly for the recipe, here your go are:

  • ½ cup Grand Marnier
  • 1 bottle chilled Champagne
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
